On August 6, the “Hiroshima Peace Creation Fund,” for which Kazuyuki Kawamoto, vice chair of the Chugoku Shimbun, serves as chair, was certified as a public interest incorporated foundation. The Hiroshima Peace Creation Fund takes over the efforts of the Hiroshima International Cultural Foundation, chaired by Nobuko Yamamoto, and provides support to the peace movement through such efforts as organizing international exchange activities and handing down the A-bomb experience.

The Hiroshima Peace Creation Fund was established in February of this year. The Cabinet Office has recognized the high public interest of six projects that were assumed from the Hiroshima International Cultural Foundation and certified the fund as a public interest incorporated foundation.

Among the three peace-related projects, the “Hiroshima Peace Grant” provides financial assistance for such efforts as handing down the A-bomb experience. The Hiroshima Peace Creation Fund also organizes the “Hiroshima Appeals” project, in which the appeal of the A-bombed city of Hiroshima is expressed in a poster. The fund lends support to the Flower Festival in Hiroshima as well.

The Hiroshima Peace Creation Fund also handles three projects involving international exchange activities: The “International Exchange Festival PEACELOVE”; “Hiroshima Scholarships,” which are granted to those involved locally in artistic disciplines; and the “International Exchange Encouragement Prizes,” which are awarded for peace activities performed beyond national boundaries.

The office of the Hiroshima Peace Creation Fund commented: “We would like to take energetic action in order to convey the A-bombed city of Hiroshima’s wish for peace to the next generation.”
