by Kenji Wadaki, Staff Writer

On August 24, Krishna Hari Baskota, secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office of Nepal, visited Peace Memorial Park in downtown Hiroshima to tour Peace Memorial Museum.

Mr. Baskota was guided through the museum by Kenji Shiga, the museum director. He stopped to gaze at belongings left behind by A-bomb victims, such as shredded clothing and a blackened lunchbox, and said that these artifacts convey the message that human beings must not wage war. He also urged the people of the world to pay a visit to the museum.

Mr. Baskota is visiting Japan at the invitation of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His first visit to Hiroshima was under his own initiative. After visiting the museum, Mr. Baskota placed flowers at the Cenotaph for the A-bomb Victims and looked at the A-bomb Dome. He also exchanged views with Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui.
