Foreign Minister of Tajikistan visits Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, calls for effort to realize nuclear-free world

Sirojiddin Aslov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, visited Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum on June 28. After learning about the damage caused by the atomic bombing, Mr. Aslov said that he hopes to work together with countries around the world to realize the abolition of nuclear weapons.
Guided by Kenji Shiga, director of the museum, Mr. Aslov toured the facility and observed a panoramic model which shows the state of the city in the wake of the atomic bombing and exhibits that included a charred lunchbox and photographs of victims suffering from burns. Mr. Aslov showed astonishment at the temperature of the heat rays unleashed by the bomb, and learned from Mr. Shiga that the temperature reached some 2,000 degrees Celsius.
Tajikistan is one of five signatories to the Central Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone Treaty. Invited as an honored guest by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Mr. Aslov visited Hiroshima for the first time at his own request. He stressed that the world must make a concerted effort so that such tragedies will not be repeated.
