Hiroshima mayor requests India and Pakistan to enter into dialogue '02/6/1

On May 31, Hiroshima Mayor Tadatoshi Akiba visited the Indian and Pakistani ambassadors to Japan to address the mounting military tension and danger that nuclear weapons will be used. He presented them with a written request for nuclear disarmament and a peaceful solution through dialogue.

The request stressed the necessity of nuclear disarmament because using nuclear weapons could annihilate the human race. It asked the two countries to open their minds to the voices of the international community requesting them to break the chain of violence, use dialogue to address their problems, and find a peaceful resolution.

After hand-delivering his request to the Pakistan Embassy, Mayor Akiba said, "We have a responsibility to create a common future of hope for humankind. "Councilor Ahmad replied, "We won't use nuclear weapons first, and we have no desire for war." At the Indian Embassy as well, Deputy Minister Biren Nanda responded, "We have no intention of making a preemptive nuclear attack.
