Nonaligned confab calls for end to nuclear weapons

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, May 21 Kyodo - A conference of foreign ministers from nonaligned nations in Cartagena, Colombia, adopted a statement Wednesday calling for abolition of nuclear weapons, land mines and weapons of mass destruction.

The statement adopted at the two-day conference ended Wednesday did not include criticism of India for conducting two rounds of nuclear tests last week despite Pakistan's call to urge India to ''take responsibility'' for the tests, a diplomatic source said.

The delegates from India and Pakistan were each allowed to make appeals at the conference for support, but neither Pakistan's appeal for censure of India nor India's plea for understanding of the testing won support from the participants, the source said.
