IAEA finds no problems over Iraq's nuclear inventory+ Aug 8, 2004

VIENNA, Aug. 8 Kyodo - The International Atomic Energy Agency said Sunday it has found no problems regarding Iraq's declared nuclear material at the country's storage facility during a routine inspection conducted in early August.

''The material -- natural or low-enriched uranium -- is not sensitive from a proliferation perspective and is consolidated at a storage facility near the Tuwaitha complex, south of Baghdad,'' the IAEA said in a statement.

It was the second inspection of the storage facility in the post-Iraq war period, following the first one conducted in June last year, the U.N. nuclear watchdog said.

IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei said the inspection ''was a good first step,'' indicating he hopes to resume full inspections on whether Iraq had programs for weapons of mass destruction under the rule of former President Saddam Hussein.
