Peace News:
Victim registrations in National Memorial Hall exceed 10,000 Aug 4, 2004

On the 3rd, the collection of names and photographs of atomic bomb victims at the National Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims (Hiroshima, Naka-ku) exceeded 10,000. This day, 44 new victims were registered, bringing the total to 10,011. Of these, photographs are available for 8,742 victims, while 1,269 are registered by name only.

The National Memorial Hall, which opened in August 2002, began collecting names and photos in March 2001. Beginning this fiscal year, the right of registry, which had been limited to family members, was opened to former classmates and other associates. In addition, beginning on the first of this month, a Registration Corner was established in the basement of the East Wing of the Peace Memorial Museum, evidence of a greater effort to encourage registration.
