Junior Writers Reporting

Junior writers of the Chugoku Shimbun launch new Peace Seeds

“Peace Seeds,” a regular feature produced by teens in Hiroshima, known as “junior writers,” began on January 8, 2015. The junior writers will come up with the themes for their reporting, gather the needed information, and write articles on peace-related issues from the perspective of the generation which shoulders the future.

2015 marks the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, as well as the end of World War II. People of the generations who are familiar with the war and the bombings firsthand are aging. There is limited time left to listen directly to the voices of the A-bomb survivors, while war and conflict persist in the world. Hiroshima’s importance as an A-bombed city is greater than ever.

It is vital to create a mechanism to carry on the memories of the atomic bombing and the aspirations for peace, and convey these messages to the next generation. Peace Seeds will take on themes of peace from a broad perspective, with teens in the A-bombed city of Hiroshima producing this page of news with a youthful outlook, their eyes on the future.

Peace Seeds will appear on the second and fourth Thursday of each month.
