Listening to the voices of developing nations

In July 2009, I took part in the "Junior 8 Summit," an event held in conjunction with the G8 Summit. At this meeting I discussed development in Africa and climate change with high school students from a number of nations. Since September 2009, I have been involved in fundraising and awareness campaigns to help prevent HIV and AIDS from spreading.

At the conference I would like to produce a strong, realistic declaration for adults. I don't want them to think that children are simply full of impossible ideals. As we are the generation responsible for the future of our world, I think it's important that we carry out the things we declare after the conference.

I look forward to meeting youth from countries that didn't take part in the Junior 8 Summit. I want to hear the views of those from developing nations that are strongly affected by climate change. (Miyu Sakata, 14)
