With the second nuclear test by India, groups of survivors and peace activists protested against India's act at the Peace Memorial Park located in the City's Naka-Ku from the morning of May 14, 1998.

A citizen's group "Hiroshima Peace Ribbon Group" (Representative Miyoko Watanabe) started to protest from 10:30 AM by holding a line of 30 ribbons (50cm x 1m) on which they wrote slogans to express their anger. One of them said, "We don't approve any nuclear tests."

A French tourist who happened to visit the park joined the peace ribbon group. Watanabe read a statement of protest addressed to Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, "Despite the efforts of nations in the world toward nuclear disarmament, India carried out the nuclear test again. Their act is nothing but insanity."

Hiroshima Prefectural Confederation of A-bomb Sufferers Organizations (President Kazushi Kaneko), Hiroshima Council Against A and H Bombs and the total of 8 groups were gathered in front of the A-bomb cenotaph to protest and sat in. They put a rather large cloth on which they wrote a slogan. The slogan said, "We protest against India's underground nuclear tests". Leaders of the groups expressed their fear unanimously; "India's nuclear tests may antagonize her neighbor countries and turn the trend of nuclear disarmament backward. It is a challenge against the international society."

Peace-Link Hiroshima/Kaure/Iwakuni (Organizer Noriko Miki) held a sit-in protest in front of the A-bomb dome from 13:00. The members of the group appealed to the people on the street by saying, "We strongly protest against India's nuclear tests" and distributed handbills accusing the Indian government."
