• Outline:
The 20th century is often described as a "century of war." Many people around the world yearned for the 21st century to be a "century of peace." However, the human family still faces the grave reality of the threat of nuclear weapons, wars, and terrorism. The majority of people on the globe has not yet understood the consequences of nuclear warfare. People are much more likely to concider military attacks as justice.

Hiroshima had experienced the "living hell" caused by the A-bombing and has been questioning the meaning of the A-bombed experience in the context of human history. The lesson we have learned is an importance of nurturing a spirit of peace and moving towards reconciliation instead of hatred and retaliation.

HWPM will send people including a hibakusha (A-bomb survivors) and youths from Hiroshima to countries known to possess nuclear weapons, conflict area and other places to share what we have learned through our experience. We wish to make an appeal for nuclear disarmament, and prevention of wars and conflicts by building confidence and trust through dialogue.

Hibakusha's averaged age now exceeded 70. It is important for them to go abroad and tell their experiences staright to the people. Also it will be a great opportunity for young people to realize a meaning of inheritating "Hirosnima and Nagasaki" and to learn an importance of deep involvement for creating peace in the 21st century as an A-bombed citizen through the realities in the world.

Yet, it will be one of important aims to arouse public opinion calling for nuclear-free-world towards NPT review conference which will be held at the UN in NYin the spring in 2005.

"No War No DU" human letters gathering presented by 5000-people-lineup including hibakusha and young people opposing the militaly actions against Iraq conducted by the US and the UK. (March 2, 2003, Central Park in Naka-ku, Hiroshima City)
