Afghan President Hamid Karzai will visit Hiroshima on June 19. Mr. Karzai will tour Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, among other places, and learn about the damage caused by the atomic bombing and the city's recovery from the devastation of the blast. It will be Mr. Karzai's fourth visit to Japan, but the first time that he will come to Hiroshima.

Mr. Karzai is scheduled to visit Japan June 16-20. On June 19, he will learn about the damage wrought by the atomic bombing and the process of postwar reconstruction at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum in Peace Memorial Park and other places. It is unlikely that he will be able to make time to listen to the experience of an A-bomb survivor.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, support measures for Afghanistan will be discussed during his visit this time. The president is expected to explain Afghanistan's efforts, including its efforts to enhance governance and improve security.

In December 2001, President Karzai took the post of chair of the Interim Administration of Afghanistan. In June 2002, the Transitional Government, for which Mr. Karzai served as president, was established at the Emergency Loya Jirga. In October 2004, he was elected president in Afghanistan's first presidential election.
