by Junichiro Hayashi, Staff Writer

On August 5, the memorial ceremony for Korean A-bomb victims was held in front of the Monument in Memory of the Korean Victims of the A-bomb in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Nearly 250 people, including family members of the victims, attended the ceremony. The participants sought to console the spirits of the dead, who perished in the bombing while away from their own nation.

Kwon Oh-won, leader of the Hiroshima Headquarters of the Korean Residents Union in Japan, the organizer of the ceremony, dedicated the register containing the names of the Korean victims to the monument. The register now numbers 2,656 with the addition of nine whose deaths were confirmed during the past year. The participants then offered silent prayers.

Park Chong Kil, director of the South Korean Atomic Bomb Sufferers Association also attended the ceremony. He read out the message of Kim Yong Gil, president of the association: "Please rest in peace in a heaven free of wars and nuclear weapons."

The participants also performed a dance to comfort the souls of the victims, sang a memorial song in chorus, and offered a wreath of flowers, among other items, to the monument. A representative of youth delivered a message of peace.

The ceremony marked its 41st year and the 12th year since the monument was moved inside the park.
