Ippei Kobayashi, 63, a film producer seeking to issue a DVD about the atomic bombing with English subtitles, visited Hiroshima on November 29 and asked A-bomb survivors, among others, for their cooperation on the project. The original Japanese film, entitled “Hiroshima,” was released in 1953. He plans to complete the DVD project by the summer of 2011 and send copies of the DVD to world leaders.

On the day, Mr. Kobayashi visited Hiroshima Eiga Center, a company engaged in planning and producing anti-nuclear and peace films, and discussed the project with Hidetaka Ushio, 59, the CEO of the company. They agreed to establish a planning committee for the project that will be based at the Hiroshima Eiga Center.

Mr. Kobayashi also met with Sunao Tsuboi, chairman of the Hiroshima Prefectural Confederation of A-bomb Sufferers Organizations, and received Mr. Tsuboi’s assurance of full cooperation on the project.

According to the project plan, the English translation work for the DVD will begin in January. The accounts of those who appeared in the film as extras, as well as other comments, will also be included in the DVD.

The committee is seeking donations to complete the project, along with information from former cast members of the film. Screenings of the film can also be requested. To make inquiries, please call 082-293-1119.
