President of the American Society of Hiroshima-Nagasaki A-Bomb Survivors meets with Hiroshima mayor

On May 23, Kazu Sueishi, 85, president of the American Society of Hiroshima-Nagasaki A-Bomb Survivors and a resident of California, visited Hiroshima City Hall to meet with Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui.

Ms. Sueishi expressed her gratitude for the health examinations given to A-bomb survivors living in North America, which have been undertaken by the Hiroshima Prefectural Medical Association every two years since 1977. She also asked the mayor to “visit the United States sometime in the future to see A-bomb survivors in good spirits.” In reply, Mr. Matsui said, “I’m happy to hear that you’re in good spirits, too.”

The society, with a membership of about 300 A-bomb survivors, mainly in the states of California and Hawaii, has helped coordinate the health examinations given in North America. Ms. Sueishi, who has been in Hiroshima since mid-April, visited city hall with people from the prefectural medical association prior to her departure from Japan on May 30.
