Hiroshima Peace Creation Fund seeks donations to strengthen efforts to promote peace

With the 70th year of the atomic bombing looming in 2015, the Hiroshima Peace Creation Fund, a public interest incorporated foundation, established the “Peace Supporter System” on January 1, 2014. The fund will solicit donations from individuals and businesses in and out of Japan to further strengthen efforts to convey the wish for peace from the A-bombed city of Hiroshima. Yoshinori Okatani, president of the Chugoku Shimbun, serves as chair.
In principle, donations will be made in units of 3,000 yen and above. The fund will accept contributions brought to its office, located in the city center, or by bank transfer starting on January 6. All donations will be used for the fund’s activities involving peace and international exchange. The fund will seek donations widely so that the desire for peace held by Hiroshima will be broadly conveyed.
The Hiroshima Peace Creation Fund was established in February 2012, and designated a public interest incorporated foundation by the Cabinet Office on August 6, 2012. Its work consists of six programs, including the “Hiroshima Peace Grant,” which provides grants for activities to transmit the A-bomb experiences and promote peace, and the “Hiroshima Appeals Poster,” which appeals for a world free of nuclear weapons through art. The programs run by the Hiroshima Peace Creation Fund were handed down from the efforts made by the Hiroshima International Cultural Foundation, which was chaired by Nobuko Yamamoto.
Staff from the fund commented: “With the support of the public, we seek to further strengthen the efforts to convey peace from the A-bombed city of Hiroshima.”
