High priest from Myanmar lays flowers at cenotaph

Tipitaka Eindapala, 53, the highest-ranking priest in Myanmar’s Buddhism, visited Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park on May 22 and laid flowers at the cenotaph for the A-bomb victims.
Clad in a saffron robe, the high priest and 16 other priests who accompanied him chanted sutras in front of the cenotaph in a prayer for peace. Yasuyoshi Komizo, 66, chairperson of the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation, who served as their guide, said he invited the priests to join hands with him in the effort to bring about peace.
Tipitaka Eindapala said he renewed his determination to preach love for others, as the Buddha taught, and to work toward a society without weapons. This was his first official visit to Hiroshima, but he has visited Peace Memorial Park every year since 2012. The group came to Japan to attend a memorial service for the war dead in the city of Kitakyushu in southern Japan.
