by Michiko Tanaka, Staff Writer

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, located in Naka Ward, has been ranked number one for two years in a row by international visitors in the category covering Japan’s museums and art museums. The ranking is compiled by TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site. The museum in Hiroshima has also maintained its number three spot in the category of Asian museums and art museums. The TripAdvisor rankings were compiled by a Japanese subsidiary of the American company which operates the site, based on last year’s feedback from travelers.

Kenji Shiga, the head of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, said he was encouraged by the results and will seek to make further efforts to improve the museum’s exhibits and services.

TripAdvisor began its rankings of museums and art museums last year. This year, the Hakone Open-Air Museum in Hakone-machi, Kanagawa Prefecture is ranked second, and the Miho Museum in Koka City, Shiga Prefecture is ranked third. The Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum is in the ninth spot. In Asia, the Museum of Qin Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses in China and the War Remnants Museum in Vietnam are ranked first and second, respectively, followed by the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.
