The Hiroshima Peace Media Center, a division of the Chugoku Shimbun and operating under its auspices, fully recognizes the importance of handling personal information with care in order to respect the privacy rights of the individual. In this regard, the Hiroshima Peace Media Center confirms adherence to the “Act on the Protection of Personal Information” (Japanese legislation passed on April 1, 2005) as well as in-house policies of the Chugoku Shimbun, in safeguarding personal information.


Specifically, the Hiroshima Peace Media Center will act in accordance with the following principles:


1. Acquisition of Personal Information

Personal information will be acquired within reasonable bounds for an expressed purpose and this information will not be used beyond this purpose unless permission is granted for further use.


2. Security of Personal Information

All personal information acquired by the Hiroshima Peace Media Center will be safeguarded in an appropriate manner to prevent unauthorized access and corrective action will be taken promptly where necessary to uphold this security.


3. Personal Information to Third Parties

Personal information held by the Hiroshima Peace Media Center will not be provided to any third party, except when the person to whom the personal information refers has approved the provision of this information.


4. Correction or Deletion of Personal Information

Requests for the correction or deletion of any personal information held by the Hiroshima Peace Media Center can be made by the person to whom the information refers or by a proxy of the person. After identifying the person or proxy, these requests will be handled in a prompt and appropriate manner.
