The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, located in the city’s Naka Ward, has initiated an advance online reservation system for visits beginning September 1 to the museum’s regular exhibits. The museum to this point has limited the number of visitors, with the aim of preventing spread of the coronavirus, by distributing numbered tickets to guests on the day of their visits. The online reservation system is designed to help tourists who travel based on a fixed schedule, such as students on school trips and others, to visit the museum more conveniently.
The Peace Memorial Museum reopened in June after nearly three months of temporary closure due to the coronavirus pandemic. Since July, the museum has set the maximum number of visitors to the permanent exhibits at 150 guests per 30 minutes, distributing timed tickets to visitors on the day of their visits.
Starting September 1, however, while limiting the number of visitors admitted, the museum will allow 130 people per 30 minutes to make advanced reservations and will distribute the remaining unreserved 20 tickets to guests on the same day of the visit.
Reservations can be made by accessing the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum’s website, clicking the Online Reservation Service for Timed Entry Passes, and entering the time, date, and number of visitors. Reservations must be made up to three days in advance, with booking one year in advance possible.
A museum Outreach Division staff said, “Until now, museum visitors had to actually visit the museum to see whether or not they could get into the museum at their desired time, making it difficult for especially group tourists to make plans. Now, though, because reservations can be made a year in advance, we are hoping the system will be used to schedule, for example, next year’s school trip.” For details, please contact the museum’s Outreach Division at 082-541-5544.
