@49 days until Hiroshima Summit: High School Baseball

High school baseball has been popular in Hiroshima since before World War II. Teams from the prefecture have won the national championships 12 times in the spring and summer tournaments, and have won 215 games in total. By prefecture, Hiroshima ranks 6th in both the number of championships and games won. Hiroshima has attained a position as one of the strongest prefectures in Japan. The two schools that have led the prefecture are Koryo High School and Hiroshima Commercial High School. Koryo High School has taken part in 49 spring and summer tournaments, and Hiroshima Commercial High School has taken part in 45, ranking 9th and 11th in the nation, respectively. Koryo High School has done well in spring tournaments and won the championship three times, while Hiroshima Commercial High School has won the national championship six times in the summer, ranking 2nd in the nation.

Koryo High School is currently competing in the Spring National Invitational High School Baseball Tournament at Koshien Stadium in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture. The team will play in a semifinal on March 31, in a bid to obtain their fourth national championship after its third in 2003.
