Chugoku Shimbun publishes a special feature edition in English to introduce “Hiroshima” to foreign journalists

The Chugoku Shimbun issued an English version of the special feature edition (12 pages) introducing the reality of the atomic bombing and the charms of Hiroshima Prefecture, to coincide with the opening of the summit meeting of The G7 (Group of Seven industrialized nations) in Hiroshima on May 19. It will be distributed at the International Media Center, which will be set up at Hiroshima Prefectural Gymnasium in Naka Ward, as well as at other sites so journalists from media outlets from overseas can read the publication.
The English version has almost the same layout as the Japanese version which was published on May 12. In order for readers to imagine more clearly “Hiroshima on that day,” it contains content from the restored map of the pre-bombed townscape in the area of present-day Peace Memorial Park in Naka Ward, descriptions of people’s life at the time, and images of A-bomb victims’ belongings displayed in the Peace Memorial Museum, along with their photos. Stories on world-class athletes and cultural leaders with links to Hiroshima, local food like Okonomiyaki, and the history of Miyajima Island in Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima Prefecture, are included, too.
