by Yo Kono, Staff Writer

On October 11, the Citizens Council for the Hiroshima Summit, an organization consisting of members from public and private sectors, decided on a policy to develop a permanent exhibition facility in Naka Ward of Hiroshima, to look back the G7 Hiroshima Summit held in the city. The facility will be complete in March next year, and open to public from April.

According to multiple sources, the facility is to be named the G7 Hiroshima Summit memorial section (tentative name). On the north side of the east building of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, a prefabricated building of 110 square meters in size will be constructed. Planned for display are replicas of the museum guestbook pages written and signed by the national leaders, a round table used for the summit meeting sessions, and photo panels. The cost for developing the facility is 50 million yen.

The City of Hiroshima will primarily manage and operate the facility, and the Hiroshima Prefectural government will consider making some contributions to it. It is planned that the exhibition will continue until end of December in 2030, a year when Japan will host G7 summit again.

The council has held the G7 summit memorial exhibition in Naka Ward and Hatsukaichi in the prefecture for a limited time so far. It has sought the possibility of building a permanent exhibition facility in Hiroshima City.
