Keiko Ogura, 86, A-bomb survivor, received a pocket notebook from U.S. President Joe Biden as a thank-you gift for her dialogue with participating national political leaders at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum in the city’s Naka Ward during the G7 Hiroshima Summit held in May. She was pleased with the gift, saying, “I want to use it as a guestbook in which people I meet from now can write their signature and message.”

The pocket notebook is 16 centimeters in length and 11 centimeters in width. Its black-leather cover has the U.S. presidential seal with Mr. Biden’s signature engraved on its back. The pocket notebook’s packaging contained a message from the president that said, “Thank you so much for all your great support in G7 Hiroshima Summit 2023!” It was delivered from the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo to the museum to the attention of Ms. Ogura.

Ms. Ogura said, “I was thinking I was old enough to stop recounting my A-bombing experience, but this gift may be a sign that I still need to continue.” She is planning to have people visiting A-bombed Hiroshima write their messages for peace.
