Japan Confederation of A- and H-bomb Sufferers Organizations opens UN A-bomb exhibition website to disseminate threat of nuclear weapons in two languages

The Japan Confederation of A- and H-bomb Sufferers Organizations (Nihon Hidankyo) and other organizations have launched a website which introduces the A-bomb exhibition held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York during the last summer’s Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference. Amid Russia’s continuing threats to use nuclear weapons, the project to launch the website is aimed at disseminating the threat of nuclear weapons at home and abroad.

The website is named “NO MORE HIROSHIMA & NAGASAKI MUSEUM,” and is available in both Japanese and English. The site is divided into five chapters, including “Life and Death at Ground Zero,” “Those Who Lived and Those Who Died” and “The United Nations and the Hibakusha.” The book-like format allows visitors to read 49 exhibition panels as if they are turning pages.

The panels include many photographs of A-bomb survivors and aid workers. There is also a scientific explanation on the effects of radiation on the human body. The formation of Nihon Hidankyo in 1956 is introduced, and the activities and efforts of the A-bomb survivors calling for the abolition of nuclear weapons at home and abroad are also covered.

Sueichi Kido, 83, secretary-general of the Japan Hidankyo, who was exposed to the atomic bomb in Nagasaki, says, “We would like to convey to people around the world what the atomic bomb brought to humanity. Visitors to the website are sure to understand that no one has the right to use nuclear weapons.”

The Hidankyo and other organizations are collecting donations for production costs through crowdfunding until September 17. The site is also accessible via QR code.
