by Uzaemonnaotsuka Tokai, Staff Writer

The Article 9 Association (A9A) Hiroshima, a citizens’ group led by Mitsuo Okamoto, professor emeritus at Hiroshima Shudo University, will place an opinion ad touting the significance of Article 9 of Japan’s Constitution in morning newspapers on August 6. A9A Hiroshima is soliciting donations of 1,000 yen from individual contributors in support of its plans.

The opinion ad will be placed in the Chugoku Shimbun and “the urban edition” of the Asahi Shimbun, which is published in Tokyo. The opinion ad will contain the full text of Article 9, along with the English translation, as well as the names of contributors who would like their names printed. The ad will also refer to efforts to promote nuclear abolition, such as “the Hiroshima-Nagasaki Declaration,” issued by 17 Nobel Peace Prize laureates and published in the Chugoku Shimbun in May.

An opinion ad of this kind is released annually by A9A Hiroshima through the press. This year’s ad will be the 13th one. If contributors would like their names included in the ad, the deadline is July 15. The holder’s name of the postal transfer account is Dai kyujo no kai Hiroshima (A9A Hiroshima) and the account number is 01390 5 53097. Please contact Fujii at the A9A administrative office for further information. The telephone number is 070-5052-6580.
