Bulgarian ambassador meets with Hiroshima mayor

Lubomir Todorov, Bulgarian ambassador to Japan, visited Hiroshima City Hall on May 17 and exchanged views on nuclear abolition with Hiroshima Mayor Tadatoshi Akiba. Bulgaria and Hiroshima have been engaged in some exchange programs, such as an A-bomb exhibition held in Bulgaria by the Hiroshima-Bulgaria Association.

After visiting Peace Memorial Museum and the A-bomb Dome in downtown Hiroshima, Ambassador Todorov went to Hiroshima City Hall. Responding to Mayor Akiba, who appealed for support of nuclear abolition in his greetings, Ambassador Todorov wrote in the city hall guest book that he would like to help realize a world free of nuclear weapons.

Four Bulgarian cities have joined Mayors for Peace, for which Mr. Akiba serves as president. Mayors for Peace is seeking the abolition of nuclear weapons by 2020. Ambassador Todorov also expressed his intention to urge other cities to join Mayors for Peace.
