Hiroshima City website now available in 131 languages with automated translation system

The Hiroshima City government has redesigned its website. It is now available in 131 languages, previously seven, using an automated translation system, as the city anticipates being in the world spotlight this year, which marks the 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing.

The redesigned website, which went live at the end of February, has been improved so that city-sponsored events can be posted in a timely manner, with the closest events appearing on the front page. This will allow the city government to better disseminate information about a number of events related to the 80th anniversary that are expected to take place.

The city renews its website every five years. The cost of this project is 217 million yen, including operating costs for five years.
