A letter from Kozo Iwamoto, First year, class 3
Nov. 16, 1999
This is a letter written by Koso Iwamoto, a student in Class 3, to his sister living in Asahara Village (Saeki Town) when he was living in a dormitory. This letter to his younger sister Yoshiko was written on the back of a can label, and she still keeps it. She was in the fourth grade of a national school (elementary school) at the time. The following is the letter in its original form.
▼Koso Iwamoto’s letter
To Yoshiko
Yoshiko, are you well and attending to your studies?
I’m fine and studying hard.
Enemies often come to Hiroshima.
You should be careful and study hard, listen to your mother, and make your mother’s heart at peace. Your mother is working hard to help win the war, so you should do the cooking.
Your brother is well and studying hard, so don’t worry. Please send me a letter.
Sayonara.
