Live broadcasting of Peace Memorial Ceremony in Japanese and English on Hiroshima radio

by Gosuke Nagahisa, Staff Writer

On August 6, "FM Chupea Club," a local radio station (76.6 MHz) in Naka Ward, Hiroshima, broadcast the Peace Memorial Ceremony in Hiroshima live in both Japanese and English. The ceremony was transmitted overseas for about an hour through the "Simul Radio" broadcast, which airs programs on the radio and on the Internet simultaneously.

Akira Tashiro, the executive director of the Chugoku Shimbun's Hiroshima Peace Media Center, appeared on the live program and offered explanation about the Peace Declaration read out by Hiroshima Mayor Tadatoshi Akiba, among other things. Mari Tsuruda, 79, honorary director of the YMCA School of Languages, provided the consecutive English interpretation for the program.
