by Toshiko Bajo

On the evening of August 17, a workshop to consider people of other nations who were exposed to the atomic bombing in Hiroshima was held at Aster Plaza in the center of the city. The workshop was organized by the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) of Japan. In addition to Japanese participants, people from eight countries including South Korea and Malaysia, who are now in Hiroshima and learning about the atomic bombing, took part in the workshop. The number of participants totaled nearly 120.

The participants were divided into several groups with nine or ten members in each and discussion took place on such things as perceptions of the atomic bombing in their countries and the A-bomb experiences of Korean survivors that some participants had heard. The discussion was held in several languages, including English, with interpretation.

Ye Seul Nam, 22, a college senior from South Korea, said, "I'm glad I can share the wish for peace beyond borders with those of the same generation. I'd like to convey my experience of the workshop to my friends back home."
