by Yumi Kanazaki, Staff Writer

On September 29, Air Chief Marshal Pradeep Naik of the Indian Air Force visited Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and toured Peace Memorial Museum. This was the first time that a top military official from a nuclear weapon state has made an official visit to the museum. He is in Japan for an exchange with officers of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force that is being held from September 1 to October 1.

Mr. Naik and other officers of the Indian Air Force toured the museum guided by Koichiro Maeda, the museum director, and looked closely at such exhibits as the panoramic model of downtown Hiroshima, which depicts the complete devastation in the aftermath of the bombing. The group also offered flowers at the Cenotaph for the A-bomb Victims. Mr. Naik said he was greatly moved by the exhibits, adding that he was impressed by the fact that Hiroshima has risen from ruin to become a beautiful city.
