by Takahiko Mondo, Staff Writer

On March 15, Kevin P. Clements, 65, secretary general of the Tokyo-based Toda Institute for Global Peace and Policy Research, visited the Hiroshima Prefectural Government Office and exchanged views on nuclear disarmament and other issues with Hiroshima Governor Hidehiko Yuzaki.

Governor Yuzaki explained the prefecture’s “Hiroshima for Global Peace” plan, which was formulated by the prefectural government in November 2011. Dr. Clements has offered his support for the plan, which includes holding a multilateral conference in Hiroshima with government officials holding discussions with an eye toward promoting talks on nuclear disarmament. Dr. Clements commented that it is important to clarify the nuclear threats facing the international community.

Dr. Clements also paid a visit to Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui before speaking on the subject of nuclear abolition and security in a lecture held for Hiroshima citizens at a hotel in Higashi Ward, Hiroshima.
