City of Hiroshima and Japan Trade Union Confederation bolster ties for nuclear abolition

Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui and Hiroyuki Nagumo, general secretary of the Japan Trade Union Confederation (JTUC), met on August 5 at the International Conference Center Hiroshima and agreed to pursue closer cooperation to help advance the abolition of nuclear weapons and strengthen support measures for A-bomb survivors.

After the 20-minute talk behind closed doors, Mr. Nagumo held a press conference and said, with their sights set on the Nuclear Non-proliferation Review Conference in 2015, the 70th year since the atomic bombings, they will strongly urge the nuclear weapons states to abandon their nuclear arsenals.
