Japan to host U.N. nuclear disarmament meeting in Nagano Pref.

The central Japan city of Matsumoto in Nagano Prefecture will next week host an annual U.N. meeting on nuclear disarmament, with topics including the peaceful use of nuclear power in the wake of the Fukushima nuclear crisis, the Foreign Ministry said Friday.

The latest U.N. Conference on Disarmament Issues running for three days from Wednesday is themed on urgent concerted actions toward a nuclear-free world, the ministry said.

U.N. disarmament affairs director Hannelore Hoppe and International Atomic Energy Agency chief Yukiya Amano are among participants to the meeting, which has been held annually in Japan since 1989, it said.
