Event on inhumanity of nuclear weapons to be held in Hiroshima during NPDI meeting

In conjunction with the upcoming ministerial meeting of the Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Initiative (NPDI), comprised of 12 non-nuclear weapon states, Nuclear Abolition Japan will hold an event for the public on April 11 and 12 which includes a lecture on the inhumanity of nuclear weapons. Nuclear Abolition Japan is made up of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other entities.
The Hiroshima City Plaza for Town Development through Citizen Exchange, in the city center, will serve as the main venue. On April 11, at 6:30 p.m., Nanao Kamada, professor emeritus of Hiroshima University and an expert on the medical treatment of A-bomb survivors, will give a lecture titled “The Inhumanity of Nuclear Weapons Based on Medical Evidence.” On April 12, at 10 a.m., representatives from NGOs in and out of Japan will discuss “a path toward banning nuclear arms.” The session will include time for those in attendance to share their views as well. A fee of 500 yen will be asked for materials at each event.
On April 12, at 2 p.m., A-bomb survivors and high school students will convey their thoughts for peace on the river bank opposite the A-bomb Dome. Haruko Moritaki, co-chair of the Hiroshima Alliance for Nuclear Weapons Abolition, one of the organizers, is appealing for participants, saying she would like this event to be an opportunity for people to call on the international community to begin negotiations for and conclude a nuclear weapons convention.
