Exhibition on reconstruction after the atomic bombings to be held in Rwanda next month

by Rie Nii, Staff Writer

An exhibition on the reconstruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki after the atomic bombings will be held at the Genocide Memorial Center in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, from August 6 to 17. The exhibition is being organized by volunteers dispatched to Rwanda by the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA); Marie Louise Towari, president of Think About Education in Rwanda, an NPO based in the city of Fukushima; and others.

Using panels, the exhibition will show the destruction caused by the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, views of Hiroshima about 20 years after the atomic bombing, and other items. At the same time, various events will take place, including a workshop to fold 1,000 paper cranes, an exchange between survivors of the genocide in Rwanda and A-bomb survivors via teleconferencing, and a music concert.
