A special exhibition marking the 85th anniversary of the birth of Anne Frank (1929-1945) opened at the Holocaust Education Center in Fukuyama in eastern Hiroshima Prefecture on September 2.

The exhibition, which will continue through October 4, includes a striped uniform believed to have been worn by a prisoner at a Nazi concentration camp. The uniform, which was donated to the center last month, is being displayed for the first time along with about 20 other items. A spoon Anne Frank used as a child will be on display through September 20, and from September 24 her postage stamp holder will be exhibited.

The exhibition will also include 29 panels on Anne’s life in hiding and on the Holocaust.

“I would like more people to gain a better understanding of Anne and of the Holocaust,” Akio Yoshida, the center’s vice director, said.

The center is open from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is closed on Sundays, Mondays and holidays. There is no admission charge.
