Official from Morocco visits Hiroshima, learns about A-bomb damage

by Michiko Tanaka, Staff Writer

Mohamed Cheikh Biadillah, 65, president of the House of Counsellors of Morocco, visited Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in Naka Ward on September 11 and toured Peace Memorial Museum. He also listened to an account of the atomic bombing from a survivor and deepened his knowledge of the A-bomb damage wrought 69 years ago.

After offering flowers at the Cenotaph for the A-bomb Victims, Mr. Biadillah toured the museum, guided by Kenji Shiga, director of the museum. He gazed at the tattered uniforms of students who died in the atomic bombing and a charred lunchbox.

Mr. Biadillah also listened to the experience of Yoshiko Kajimoto, 83, an A-bomb survivor who lives in Nishi Ward, and encouraged her to continue telling her story to younger generations.

Mr. Biadillah was invited to Japan by the Upper House of Japan’s Diet. His visit to Hiroshima was arranged at his request.
