Japanese embassy in Oman to hold A-bomb exhibition in capital of Muscat

Starting on November 30, entities including the Japanese embassy in Oman and the City of Hiroshima will hold the first A-bomb exhibition in this Middle Eastern country, in Muscat, the capital. The City of Hiroshima will send Kenji Shiga, the director of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, to convey the reality of the atomic bombing and the wish for nuclear abolition.
Entitled “Hiroshima, a Peace City Photo Exhibition,” the exhibition will take place at the city’s largest commercial facility and feature 30 posters which depict the hardships of A-bomb survivors and explain the efforts for peace made by the Japanese city. In addition, about 40 photo panels with well-known figures who visited Hiroshima, including Hamid Karzai, the former Afghan president, as well as landmarks of the city, such as Shukkeien Garden, will be on display. The exhibition will run for one week and admission is free.
Mr. Shiga will be in Oman for six days, from November 28, to attend the opening-day ceremony for the event. He will also speak at universities and international schools about the inhumane nature of the atomic bombing and efforts being made to advance the abolition of nuclear weapons.
Initiated by the Japanese embassy in Oman, the exhibition has been realized with the cooperation of the City of Hiroshima and the Hiroshima-Oman Friendship Association in Asaminami Ward, Hiroshima, which began pursuing exchange activities from the time the Asian Games were held in Hiroshima in 1994. An official in the city’s International Affairs Department said, “We would like to give our very best to convey current conditions in Hiroshima, which was reconstructed from the ashes of the atomic bombing.”
