On July 27, Kazu Sueishi, 88, president of the American Society of Hiroshima-Nagasaki A-Bomb Survivors and a resident of California, visited Hiroshima City Hall to meet with Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui. She is one of five A-bomb survivors living overseas who have been invited to the Peace Memorial Ceremony on August 6 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima.

Ms. Sueishi, who was exposed to the atomic bomb at the age of 18 at her home in Minamikanon-machi, still shares her experience of the bombing to children in the United States. It has been 10 years since she last attended the Peace Memorial Ceremony. Ms. Sueishi said to Mr. Matsui, “This old lady is still working hard for the hope that human beings will be able to live together in peace.”

On August 2, Ms. Sueishi will relate her account to Japanese junior high school and senior high school students for the first time at a symposium organized by the Hiroshima City Medical Association. After meeting with Mr. Matsui, Ms. Sueishi expressed her enthusiasm by saying, “I’d like to convey my experiences of the atomic bombing and the war to younger generations both in the United States and Japan.”
