by Takayuki Kamo, Staff Writer

A choir composed of residents of Karlsruhe, a city in southwest Germany, sang songs in the Peace Memorial Park in downtown Hiroshima on August 21. With prayers for peace, 21 members of Der Flügel, the Karlsruhe Germany-Japan society choir, performed to commemorate the victims of the atomic bombing.

After offering a silent prayer in front of the Cenotaph for the A-bomb Victims, the group sang four songs in graceful voices, including Johannes Brahms’ “Lullaby” and the Japanese children’s song “Furusato” (“Hometown”). Raina Hans Csizmazia, 68, said they sang with prayers for a peaceful future.

The choir will hold a concert with choirs from Hiroshima at the Aki Ward Community Cultural Center on August 22, starting at 1:30 p.m.
