Singer donates 1 million yen in proceeds from concert to city

Singer Kosetsu Minami visited Hiroshima City Hall on October 23 to make a donation of 1 million yen to the city to be used for the operation of the Peace Memorial Museum. The funds were the proceeds from a peace memorial concert Mr. Minami gave on August 9 in the city’s Naka Ward.

At city hall Mr. Minami, 66, presented the money to Deputy Mayor Tetsuo Murota and was given a certificate of appreciation. “I hate war and the atomic bomb. I want the people of the world to understand that there must be no more war or atomic bombings,” Mr. Minami said, expressing his desire for the abolition of nuclear weapons.

According to the city, Mr. Minami has made donations toward the construction of a nursing home for survivors of the atomic bombing and other facilities in Hiroshima since 1986. This was his 12th donation, and the total comes to approximately 164 million yen. In an interview Mr. Minami said, “I believe that if many people come to the museum and see for themselves what happened on the day of the atomic bombing, there will be an end to foolish wars and bombs.”
