On November 11, participants in the International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art, an organization involved in the operation of art museums throughout the world, visited the Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). They enjoyed the exhibition entitled “A Bird’s-eye View of the World” now being held to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the atomic bombings of Japan.

It is the first time in 21 years that a conference of this kind has been held in Japan. Since November 7, 250 participants from some 50 countries and regions have been discussing concerns that art museums around the world are now experiencing. Although the conference is taking place mainly in Tokyo, about 50 participants who are interested in works of art which express the Hiroshima theme visited the A-bomb Dome and MOCA in the City of Hiroshima.

The exhibition entitled “A Bird’s-eye View of the World” contains a collection of art work which show images of the world as seen from above and includes a large number of pictures and photos that were created in Hiroshima and that focus on the atomic bomb and peace.

Viviana Kuri, 44, a curator at an art museum in Mexico, said that she understood the efforts of the MOCA staff who prepared the exhibition with the tragedy of the atomic bombing in mind.
