French ambassador offers flowers at Cenotaph for A-bomb Victims

On January 14, Thierry Dana, 59, the ambassador of France to Japan, visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in the city center and offered flowers at the Cenotaph for the A-bomb Victims. France is a nuclear weapon state.

Mr. Dana was guided to the cenotaph by Yasuyoshi Komizo, the chairperson of the Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation. He also toured the Peace Memorial Museum and listened to Mr. Komizo explain the exhibits including a charred lunchbox, which had belonged to a student who worked as a mobilized student.

Mr. Dana’s visit is part of preparations for the meeting of foreign ministers that will take place in Hiroshima in April before the Group of Seven (G7) summit (Ise Shima summit). Mr. Dana said to reporters that he was pleased that the Japanese government chose Hiroshima as the site of the meeting and that coming to Hiroshima and understanding the tragedy will help the foreign ministers in their efforts to build peace.
