On March 26, 13 students from Tinian Junior/Senior High School visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum in Naka Ward. The island of Tinian, a U.S. dominion in the Northern Mariana Islands in the Pacific Ocean, was the launching point for the Enola Gay, the American B-29 bomber which dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. They toured the museum with 13 students from Koryo High School, a sister school located in Asaminami Ward, Hiroshima, and learned about the devastation caused by the atomic bombing.

The male and female students from Tinian Junior/Senior High School have been staying with the families of their Koryo High School counterparts since March 24. At the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, they saw photos of people who were fatally burned by the atomic bomb and a panoramic model which depicts the city center in the aftermath of the atomic bombing. In front of these exhibits, the students stopped and gazed intently at each display with somber faces.

After the tour, Kaeiliyah Dominique Flores Nabors, 16, said that he was able to realize the horror of the atomic bombing and that he would like to learn more about the bomb and its effects so that he can convey this information to the people in his country. Natsuki Yamamoto, 16, a first-year student at Koryo High School, said that she would like to talk about peace with people from various countries and deepen exchanges with them.

The Tinian students will stay in Hiroshima until March 28 to engage in further exchange activities with the students of Koryo High School.
