Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum redesigns its website

by Yuichi Ito, Staff Writer

The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, located in Naka Ward, has fully redesigned its website for the first time since launching the site in 1995. The updated design reflects the new displays in the east building, which reopened on April 26, and the site has become easier to navigate.

The information on the site is now organized into four categories, such as “Exhibitions & Events” and “Visiting,” which enables users to locate the information they need more quickly. Information found on the homepage includes special and current exhibitions. The site is also mobile-friendly so it can be conveniently accessed using smartphones and other mobile devices.

During the last fiscal year, the museum’s website drew about 990,000 visitors. Users can search among approximately 90,000 A-bomb-related materials in the “Peace Database” or check when the museum is expected to be crowded. The museum’s Outreach Division said they hope the website will enable many people to learn about the reality of what happened when the A-bomb was dropped and what the A-bomb survivors have endured since the bombing.
